New: Malaysia Urges Travellers to Register After Rescuing 600 from Hat Yai Floods

1 min read

KUALA LUMPUR – The Foreign Ministry has urged Malaysians travelling abroad to register via the MyWorld Alert app or nearest embassy following the successful evacuation of over 600 citizens from severe flooding in Hat Yai, southern Thailand.

Travellers – Register

Consul-General Ahmad Fahmi Ahmad Sarkawi stressed buying travel insurance that covers natural disasters and monitoring weather forecasts. Ambassador Datuk Wan Zaidi Wan Abdullah said keeping the ministry informed speeds up emergency responses.

Although floodwaters have receded 60–95%, hundreds of Malaysian vehicles remain submerged and full recovery may take weeks. Authorities advise delaying non-essential travel to Hat Yai due to disrupted services and health risks. The ministry praised Thai cooperation and Malaysian volunteers.
