1048. Concerns Rise Over MyDigital ID App Functionality

Starting December 1, MyDigital ID verification is being integrated into all Malaysian telco apps to ensure every mobile number is tied to a verified identity. Announced by Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, the initiative aims to curb scam calls, impersonation, and SIM misuse.

MyDigital ID Mandatory Telco Apps

Previously, individuals could register up to five SIMs per telco, creating loopholes for fraud. Backed by NACSA and coordinated by MCMC, the rollout includes three measures: viewing prepaid numbers linked to MyKad, mandatory verification for new SIMs, and secure Single Sign-On (SSO).

Implementation will vary by provider, with full adoption expected progressively. Applicable to Malaysian citizens only.
