Songsang Raid: 171 Malaysians Freed After Remand Bid Rejected

A magistrate’s refusal to accept a late remand request resulted in 171 Malaysian men detained during a Chow Kit wellness-centre raid being released. The large number of arrests was cited by Kuala Lumpur police chief Fadil Marsus as the cause of processing delays.

Of the 202 people detained, only 31 foreigners were remanded for two days under immigration investigations. Initial probes under Penal Code Sections 377 and 372 were dropped due to lack of evidence and absence of victims. The raid had been carried out after two weeks of surveillance by police, City Hall, and the religious authorities.
