The Syariah High Court here today sentenced lorry driver Ibrahim Bacha, 49, to six months’ imprisonment and a total fine of RM6,000 after he pleaded guilty to two counts of khalwat with his 49-year-old Hindu girlfriend.

Judge Mohd Yunus Mohamad Zin imposed the penalty for being alone in suspicious circumstances with a non-mahram woman at a PPR Krubong flat on Sept 11 and early Tuesday morning.
Prosecutor Radzwan Abdullah urged a deterrent sentence, noting the offence bordered on zina and was not the accused’s first. Ibrahim, unrepresented, begged for leniency, claiming he was only staying temporarily and intended to marry the woman after her conversion to Islam. The court maintained the custodial sentence with fines of RM3,000 per charge, in default six months each.
