KUALA LUMPUR: The Democratic Action Party (DAP) is contemplating a dramatic exit from Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s administration if long-promised reforms are not accelerated within the first half of 2026, party sources revealed to Singapore based Straits Times.

The central executive committee, DAP’s top body, discussed the option during an emergency meeting following the party’s shocking wipeout in Sabah’s Nov 29 polls, where it lost all eight contested seats amid a 51% plunge in Chinese voter support. DAP also expected to win 4 seats out of its existing 6 then.
DAP mulls exit
Leaders blame widespread public anger over slow reforms on good governance, anti-corruption, and public services—core PH pledges since 2013. Transport Minister Anthony Loke acknowledged “widespread dissatisfaction” encountered on the campaign trail, vowing to compile feedback and push Anwar for urgent action in the next six months.
Analysts warn the Sabah exodus signals eroding urban trust in PH, potentially dooming Anwar’s bid for a second term in the 2028 general election if the trend spreads nationwide.
