Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s heavy campaigning in the 2025 Sabah state election has ended in disaster. His party PKR secured just one of the 12 seats it contested, while close ally DAP was completely wiped out. Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) took 29 seats and Warisan 25, leaving Pakatan Harapan humiliated.
Sabah Gamble
Former minister Rafizi Ramli, who resigned earlier this year, had repeatedly warned against dragging the Prime Minister into state battles. Well, Rafizi’s warnings come true: “You can’t drag the Prime Minister to help. Because then you compromise the Prime Minister,” he said, adding that Sabahans resent being “talked down by the Malaya people all the time.”
Rafizi called the result a “bloodbath,” proving Anwar’s personal intervention amplified perceptions of federal arrogance and cost the coalition dearly.
