Singapore: North-east monsoon may lash into 2026

Singapore, Dec 6 — The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has urged the public and maritime industry to stay vigilant as the north-east monsoon continues until March 2026, bringing stronger winds, rougher seas and heavy rain. MPA inspectors will intensify safety checks on ferries, harbour craft and pleasure craft, focusing on vessel condition, emergency equipment, and boarding procedures.

Ferry operators must maintain proper lookout, enforce safe speeds, and conduct mandatory safety briefings. Passengers are reminded to follow safety rules, while water activities should be avoided during bad weather. Operators may deny service if conditions are unsafe.
