New: Pokémon Cards Seizure Sparks Panic: M’sians Confused Over What’s Taxable at Customs

KUALA LUMPUR: A Singaporean’s seizure of over S$30,000 worth of Pokémon cards at Changi has Malaysian travellers in a frenzy over customs rules. Customs director-general Anis Rizana Mohd Zainudin stressed: almost all goods brought in are taxable unless under strict exemptions.

Anything more — including collectible trading cards — faces 10% import duty + 10% sales tax + 10% excise. “Personal belongings don’t mean tax-free,” she warned, urging declaration to avoid seizure and investigation.
