A Beijing court on December 8 ordered Malaysia Airlines to pay compensation exceeding 2.9 million yuan (RM1.6 million) to families of eight passengers from missing flight MH370, vanished in 2014 en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 aboard.

The payout covers funeral expenses, emotional distress and losses. Of 78 original lawsuits, 47 were withdrawn after out-of-court settlements, while 23 remain pending. The ruling follows Malaysia’s announcement to resume the plane’s search later in December, a move supported by victims’ relatives and China’s foreign ministry.
