Apparently, a recent controversy regarding a man with a Pokemon card collection worth RM100,000 was seized in Singapore. This raised several questions to which Royal Malaysian Customs Department director-general Datuk Anis Rizana Mohd Zainudin stated that personal items doesn’t mean they’re immune to duties.

Customs Should Charge for Items Worth More than RM10k not RM1k

However, netizens are rather unsatisfied with such responses saying that RM1,000 isn’t a lot. They asked if someone were to buy an outfit (a shirt and pants) in Europe, that number would definitely exceed RM1,000 after conversion.

Some suggest that the number should be RM10,000 and above, rather than it being just RM1,000. There are comments showing their disapproval towards the taxation of the people when it comes to personal belongings.

Regardless, the guidelines given by the customs department are pretty much clear.
