Volunteers filmed sacks of rice that had sprouted roots — yet desperate residents still took them. “We’re scared of starving; our paddy fields are gone,” she sobbed. The disaster, triggered by Tropical Storm Senyar, killed dozens and left over 400 people missing across Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra.
