Lawyers now demand police record statements from officers in Durian Tunggal shooting

Lawyers representing families of three men shot dead by police in Durian Tunggal, Melaka on Nov 24 accused authorities of undermining the investigation by refusing to record statements from the officers who fired the shots. Rajesh Nagarajan and Sachpreetraj Singh said nearly two weeks on, only family members and medical officers have been interviewed — none of the shooters.

“This compromises the entire process and raises fears of evidence contamination and institutional bias,” they warned, demanding immediate compulsory statements, public disclosure of the chain of command, and independent oversight. Police claim the trio were armed gang members and one attacked an officer with a machete. The families dispute the self-defence narrative and have handed over audio recordings.
