Indonesia Clarifies Malaysia’s Flood Aid Was Private, Not Government‑Led

A viral claim that Malaysia provided faster and larger flood assistance to Sumatra has sparked mixed reactions in Indonesia. Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian clarified that the widely shared aid was not from the Malaysian government but from private donors acting out of sympathy. 

Indonesia Says M’sia Food Aid was Not Government-Led

He said the contribution, mostly medical supplies worth around RM300,000, was small compared to Indonesia’s large‑scale response involving billions of rupiah, 52 affected districts, military helicopters, rescue teams, and multiple agencies. 

Tito stressed that misleading social media narratives created the perception of Malaysia’s superior aid. He warned that such misunderstandings could undermine public confidence in Indonesia’s disaster management capabilities.
