After DAP’s heavy defeat in the Sabah state election, former supporters told Malaysiakini they were not celebrating but felt compelled to vote against the party. Many expressed disappointment over DAP’s cooperation with Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), which they still associate with past “dirty politics” under BN. 

DAP’s Defeat was Necessary – Former Supporters 

Some voters said DAP no longer defended Sabah’s interests and remained dependent on federal leaders in Kuala Lumpur. The growing “Sabah for Sabahans” sentiment reinforced perceptions that DAP lacked local autonomy. As a result, Warisan emerged as the main beneficiary in urban seats, seen as the only viable alternative to unseat DAP.
