The Ringgit opened slightly higher against the US dollar on Friday, holding near the RM4.08 level amid expectations of a softer US monetary policy and mixed signals from global central banks. At 8am, it strengthened to 4.0820/0940 from 4.0840/0880 the previous day.

Ringgit Going Up Against USD

Bank Muamalat chief economist Dr Mohd Afzanizam said hopes for a 2026 US rate cut have grown following softer‑than‑expected US inflation, which eased to 2.7% in November. Despite this, the US Dollar Index edged up overnight. The Ringgit outperformed most Asian peers on Thursday but opened mostly lower against major currencies including the pound and yen.
