KUALA LUMPUR, 20 December 2025 – Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh has urged the Melaka Islamic Religious Department (Jaim) to rethink a reported directive banning decorations in halal-certified kitchens and outlets. He emphasised that halal status depends solely on ingredients and preparation methods, not decor.

The controversy stems from an alleged Jaim circular prohibiting Christmas decorations in hotels and food premises. Ayer Keroh assemblyman Kerk Chee Yee criticised it as regressive, warning of harm to Melaka’s tourism and inclusive image. Akmal’s call echoes demands for clarity, insisting decorations unrelated to food compliance should not affect certification.
