A Singaporean passenger, known as Stomper Sam, reported widespread overcharging by taxi drivers at Johor Bahru’s Larkin Terminal for trips to Singapore’s Ban San Street. Official fares include a RM100 (S$33) per-taxi 24-hour service from near City Square and RM120 (S$38) via Strides from Larkin.

However, Sam observed licensed Malaysian and Singapore-registered taxis, plus illegal private cars, charging S$15–S$30 per person in SGD, totaling S$60–S$120 per vehicle. Touts dominated the queue, and no taxis departed at regulated rates. After waiting nearly three hours, Sam and his family opted for a bus instead, citing risks of unregulated rides. He highlighted the issue’s persistence despite reports to authorities, warning it tarnishes Malaysia’s image ahead of Visit Malaysia 2026.
