Warisan president Shafie Apdal announced the party is open to collaborating with Peninsular Malaysia-based parties for the 16th general election. He emphasised rejecting such alliances during the recent Sabah state polls to uphold the principle of Sabah governance by local parties.

Despite winning 25 seats, Warisan placed second to GRS, which formed the state government with federal support.
