BN Vows to Reinstate GST After GE16, Calls It ‘Best Tax Regime’

Barisan Nasional (BN) has pledged to reinstate the Goods and Services Tax (GST) after the 16th General Election, with Chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi calling it the “best tax regime” to ensure fairness and strengthen national revenue.

For now, BN will allow the current Sales and Service Tax (SST) to continue, but Zahid stressed GST’s proven effectiveness, noting its adoption in more than 155 countries. He said Malaysia remains one of only eight nations still using SST. Zahid added that reinstating GST would provide greater allocations for the people and ensure fairness across all economic groups.
