Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is scheduled for release in August 2028 from his six‑year jail term in the RM42 million SRC case, but his lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah said he could be freed earlier with a one‑third remission for good behaviour.

Criminal lawyers noted this could mean release in August 2026 if Najib pays the RM50 million fine, or in 2027 if he does not.
