Starbucks projects it will sell $60 million worth of gift cards on December 24 alone, its busiest day of the year in the US and Canada. The company says one in five Americans will receive a Starbucks card this holiday season, up from one in seven a decade ago.
Starbucks Massive Gift Card Sales
Gift cards have become a major revenue driver, with Starbucks holding $1.8 billion in unredeemed balances as of September. They generate upfront cash, repeat visits, and even “breakage” revenue when balances go unused. Introduced in 2001, Starbucks cards are now sold in 45 markets and remain a holiday favorite for millions.
