In the ongoing 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB)-Tanore trial, High Court Judge Datuk Collin Lawrence Sequerah ruled that Najib Razak failed to raise reasonable doubt on the first charge of abusing his position under Section 23 of the MACC Act. The judge convicted the former prime minister on this count, finding that Najib, as the then Finance Minister and chairman of 1MDB’s board of advisers, had participated in decisions leading to unlawful gratification.

The trial, involving four abuse of power charges and 21 money-laundering counts related to RM2.08 billion allegedly misappropriated from 1MDB funds, continues as the judge proceeds to address the remaining charges.
