KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 26 — Datuk Seri Najib Razak, 72, will learn today whether he is convicted or acquitted in his 1MDB trial after over 300 hearing days spanning six years. The former prime minister faces 25 charges: four for abuse of power allegedly securing RM2.22 billion in gratifications, and 21 for money laundering involving the same funds.
Verdict
Prosecution alleges he misused positions to receive RM2.08 billion from a 1MDB subsidiary into his personal bank account, then laundered it through transfers, cheques to Umno, and payments. Conviction could mean jail and fines; acquittal would clear him.
