‘He seemed so ordinary’: Nilai traders stunned by IED suspect’s double life

Traders in Nilai’s Desa Palma commercial area expressed shock upon learning that the 62-year-old man arrested over the December 22 improvised explosive device blast was a familiar face. A shop assistant recalled him visiting two to three times weekly for essentials like eggs, ice cream and bread, describing him as unremarkable and often wearing shorts or a face mask.

A nasi lemak vendor in her 50s similarly viewed him as an ordinary regular patron of local kuih. The suspect, Yeoh Hock Sun, also known as Ayang, was detained injured in a forested area near Batang Benar following a public tip-off and taken to hospital. An early-morning explosion in the apartment parking lot had startled residents, leading to the discovery of multiple IEDs.
