Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh announced a special convention on January 3, 2026, titled “Umno’s Direction: Stay or Leave the Government”, at Dewan Tun Ismail, World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur. The event aims to collect grassroots opinions on the party’s alliance with Pakatan Harapan, strained by DAP’s Yeo Bee Yin’s remarks celebrating a court ruling against former prime minister Najib Razak’s house arrest bid.
DAP rift
Akmal urged members and Malay supporters to attend en masse to voice sentiments, which will be escalated to Umno’s supreme council and president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. He commended Puchong and Selangor Umno divisions for severing local ties with DAP over the unapologised comments.
