Champagne Sparklers Near Ceiling Likely Caused New Year Swiss Bar Fire

A devastating fire at a bar in the Swiss ski resort of Crans-Montana on New Year’s Day killed 40 people and injured 119, authorities confirmed. Valais Attorney General Beatrice Pilloud said Friday the blaze was likely caused by sparklers on champagne bottles placed too close to the ceiling.

The investigation will examine construction materials, fire safety measures, venue capacity, and overcrowding, with potential prosecutions if negligence is found. Identification of victims may take days or weeks. Families of missing teenagers are appealing on social media for information about loved ones who attended the celebration. (Photo From BBC.COM)
