RAWANG: Seven siblings who lived without official identity documents for years have finally received their late-registered MyKad following a DNA test that confirmed their Malaysian citizenship. The National Registration Department (JPN) handed over the identity cards at their home in Sungai Buaya to Ahmad Shahmil Ismail, 30; Muhammad Fazril, 29; Nur Hakimah, 26; Nur Hakikah, 24; Nur Laila, 22; Nur Shakila, 19; and Zakaria, 17.
DNA test
Fourth sibling Nur Hakikah said the lack of documents prevented them from attending school and caused constant fear and humiliation. Assisted by JPN officers and volunteers, the DNA test on their closest relative, an uncle, resolved their stateless status, bringing new hope. (98 words)
