WASHINGTON: The White House confirmed on January 6 that President Donald Trump and his team are exploring “a range of options” to acquire Greenland, declaring the use of US military force “always an option” as Commander-in-Chief.

Trump reiterated the need for the Danish autonomous territory citing national security and Arctic deterrence against adversaries. The statement escalated tensions hours after seven European leaders—including from UK, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, and Denmark—issued a joint declaration affirming “Greenland belongs to its people” and that Arctic security must respect sovereignty through NATO collectively. Danish PM Mette Frederiksen previously warned any US attack would end NATO.
