PUTRAJAYA: UMNO will remain a key partner in Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s unity government until the next general election, party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi declared on January 6. The announcement follows demands from UMNO Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh to exit the coalition and join forces with opposition Perikatan Nasional, particularly PAS. Akmal cited compromises on issues involving race, religion, and royalty.
