PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia’s Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) detained former Army chief Tan Sri Muhammad Hafizuddeain Jantan and his two wives around 7pm on January 7, confirmed Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki.

A couple suspected of aiding the escape of RM2.4 million in cash linked to the case was remanded for seven days after arrest the previous evening. Hafizuddeain had earlier arrived at MACC headquarters at 3pm to give a statement on alleged irregularities in Malaysian Army procurement tenders. Media reports indicate the probe centres on large cash flows into his bank accounts suspected of involving corruption in defence projects. (98 words)
