Staff at three hospitals in Iran, including facilities in Tehran and Rasht, have described scenes of chaos as anti-government protests continue to spread across more than 100 cities. Medics told the BBC they treated numerous young people with direct gunshot wounds to the head and heart from live ammunition and pellets, with many dying on arrival.
Iranian Hospitals Overwhelmed
One Tehran hospital worker reported 38 deaths in a single night, overflowing morgues, and bodies stacked in prayer rooms due to lack of space. In Rasht, 70 bodies arrived at Poursina Hospital, forcing authorities to demand high fees from families for release. The protests, sparked by economic hardship, have claimed hundreds of lives and led to widespread detentions. Photo BBC
