Navy Veteran Builds $61K Backyard Pub in Texas

Inspired by a Facebook post, Texas Navy veteran Stephen Hutyra built a full backyard pub over five years, spending about $61,500. Named The Thirsty Goat after the Navy’s historic mascot, the pub features a handcrafted bar, salvaged family barn wood, air conditioning, and themed décor.

Veteran Builds Backyard Pub

Hutyra, who fell in love with pub culture while stationed in England, enlisted his father and son to help complete the build after contractors laid the foundation. Today, the pub serves as a hub for family gatherings, decorated with string lights, photos, and even a themed bathroom, blending heritage, craftsmanship, and community spirit.
