SINGAPORE: A 40-year-old man, Au Yong Khin Mun, was sentenced to 23 months and two weeks’ jail, plus two strokes of the cane on Jan. 12, 2026, after pleading guilty to voluntarily causing grievous hurt to his wife. On Dec. 2, 2024, during breakfast at a SUTD canteen, Au Yong assaulted his wife after she disagreed with using condominium sale proceeds to pay his credit card bills.
Assaulting Wife
He slapped and hit her head and back multiple times, then kneed her twice and flung her to the ground when she tried to leave. The attack fractured her collarbone, ribs, and face, requiring surgery and a week-long hospital stay. The incident was captured on CCTV, and bystanders helped the victim.
