The United States Embassy in Malaysia recently revisited a striking 2016 image of Malaysia captured by NASA from the International Space Station.
Shared on its Facebook page, the embassy described the country as looking “electric,” as the bright white flashes in the photo were not city lights but powerful lightning strikes within a massive thunderstorm system.

The post highlighted how such images remind viewers that Earth is a dynamic, living planet when seen from space. Adding trivia, the embassy noted that lightning reaches about 30,000 Kelvins, making it roughly five times hotter than the sun’s surface. The post also sparked humorous reactions from Malaysians online.
