Republican Representative Randy Fine of Florida has introduced legislation proposing Greenland’s annexation and eventual admission as the 51st state of the United States. The bill, titled the Greenland Annexation and Statehood Act, follows President Donald Trump’s renewed push to acquire the Danish territory. Fine said Greenland is a critical national security asset due to its strategic position controlling Arctic shipping lanes and regional defense infrastructure.

The bill authorizes Trump to take necessary steps, including negotiations with Denmark, to acquire Greenland as a US territory. After acquisition, the president would be required to submit a report to Congress outlining legal changes needed for statehood. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said there is currently no timeline for a potential takeover, underscoring uncertainty surrounding the proposal.
