Umno president Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh’s resignation as a Melaka State Executive Councillor was a personal decision and not an attempt to pressure Umno to leave the Unity Government. The deputy prime minister said the Umno Youth Chief made the decision voluntarily after discussions with him and Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.
Akmal’s Resignation
Zahid added the move would allow Akmal to focus on strengthening Umno Youth at the grassroots level. He also confirmed giving approval for former Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin to attend the Umno Youth General Assembly, though any return to the party requires a formal application.
