The fire alert was raised to the second level amid fears the flames could spread to a nearby mountain. Eighty‑five fire trucks were dispatched, but helicopters were grounded due to haze and fine dust.
Safety Minister Yun Ho‑jung ordered all available resources mobilised to protect lives and contain the fire. Guryong Village, long marked by ramshackle housing, is slated for redevelopment into high‑rise apartments, highlighting stark contrasts in Gangnam.
