Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh said he resigned as Melaka executive councillor effective next week, to “fight DAP to the end”. “Because of my dignity and principles, I am resigning from my exco post to fight DAP to the end,” the Merlimau assemblyman said.

Meanwhile, he said his resignation would not weaken his political struggle but instead strengthen Umno’s grassroots movement. This will help him to focus on building a new generation of leaders within Umno that will pave the way for the emergence of hundreds of thousands of new leaders committed to defending the party’s ideals and strengthening its political influence nationwide. The influence includes freeing Najib Razak from jail.
