Indonesian police uncovered a syndicate that trafficked at least 15 newborns from West Java to Singapore in mid-2025. Desperate parents in Bandung, Sukabumi, and Cianjur were paid up to 20 million rupiah (S$1,700) to surrender their babies, with “good-looking” infants selected for Singapore’s market.

Fake family documents and passports enabled direct flights from Jakarta to Changi Airport, where couples posed as parents. Wealthy Singaporean adoptive parents paid over S$20,000 per child, violating Indonesia’s free adoption law. Authorities in both countries are collaborating, with Singapore contacting affected families.
