Umno will hold its next party election only after the 16th general election, president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said. Speaking at the 2025 Umno General Assembly, Zahid ruled out polls this year, citing amended constitutional provisions. He said elections may be postponed within an 18-month window after a full term or six months following a general election, whichever is later.

Questions on contests for the president and deputy president posts would be addressed later. Umno last held elections in 2023, when Zahid and Mohamad Hasan were returned unopposed. The move aims to maintain unity and focus on GE16 preparations.
