UMNO vice-president Johari Abdul Ghani told delegates at the party’s general assembly that UMNO should not fear DAP, just as it never feared MCA, Gerakan, or other non-Malay parties. He stressed that the real threat is disunity among Malays, urging the party to embrace the president’s proposal for the “Rumah Bangsa Unification Committee” to restore Malay political unity.

Acknowledging UMNO’s declining support and election losses, Johari insisted the party can still contribute to national stability. He cited UMNO’s successful convention that stalled the Urban Renewal Bill after gathering Malay feedback in Kuala Lumpur. Meanwhile, Mohamad Hasan stresses UMNO joined the government via agreement with clear red lines, not by blindly offering its neck.
