Only way to achieve Malay unity is for Umno to quit gov’t: PAS MP

PAS assistant secretary-general Syahir Che Sulaiman has urged Umno to sever ties with DAP as the first step toward achieving sincere Malay and Muslim unity. Speaking to FMT, the Bachok MP said no Malay would accept an agenda involving DAP, which is part of the unity government with Umno.

He emphasised that PAS remains open to cooperation based on Islamic principles over party interests. Separately, PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man stressed that Muslim unity requires a broad coalition prioritising shared values beyond individual parties. Meanwhile, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi rejected the “big tent” idea, affirming Umno as the true platform for uniting Malays.
