PAS has rejected UMNO’s proposal for a “grand collaboration” of Malay‑Islamic parties, announced during UMNO’s recent general assembly. Party president Abdul Hadi Awang said PAS only supports unity based on “Allah’s decrees,” not alliances involving what he described as “silent devils” and liberal or pluralist groups.
PAS Labels Unity Govt as Leaking Ship
He likened the unity government to a “leaking ship” unable to resolve internal divisions. Hadi stressed that PAS seeks a coalition rooted in Islamic leadership and Malay‑Islamic strength, not power driven by wealth or fear. Meanwhile, UMNO president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi expressed hope the collaboration could unite Malay‑Islamic parties without dismantling the unity government.
