KOTA KINABALU – A dog named Bento was dramatically rescued after its head became stuck inside a tyre rim while chasing rats or sniffing around. Owner Charles Teo discovered the distressed pet at 5.15am on January 19 and tried various methods, including oil and plastic bags, to free him – all unsuccessful.

As Bento grew weak and stressed, Teo appealed for help on social media. Kind strangers visited to assist, but it was Civil Defence Department officers who succeeded. After calming the initially aggressive dog, they carefully manoeuvred Bento’s head, ears and neck to remove the rim without injury.Teo thanked everyone involved, especially the swift response from Civil Defence. Bento is now recovering from the harrowing ordeal.
