Former Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng has urged the reinstatement of the Primary School Achievement Test (UPSR), calling examinations the “hallmark and yardstick” of academic performance. He argued that UPSR is vital for assessing students’ progress before they advance to secondary school.
Lim Guan Eng says UPSR Must Return
His remarks followed the Prime Minister’s launch of the National Education Blueprint 2026–2035, which aims to improve Malaysia’s PISA scores and strengthen STEM education.
Guan Eng warned that Malaysia cannot afford to fall behind regional peers like Vietnam. Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek has hinted at the possible return of UPSR and PT3, though no official decision has been made.
