The story does not end there with the parents of the 19-year-old Chen Huishan (transliteration) revealing that they opposed the relationship and did not want her to go on the trip to Perlis from Penang. Twenty-one-year-old Feng Shengqin (transliteration) ran a fruit business in Perlis with his father and brother. Chen worked at a clothing store in Queensbay Mall.

Chen’s father told Sin Chew that she had taken a day off on Monday to go to Perlis with her boyfriend and that her mother advised her not to go on the trip.
