KUALA LUMPUR – Former Malaysian army chief Tan Sri Hafizuddiean Jantan, 58, pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court here to four charges of receiving proceeds of unlawful activities totalling RM2,122,400. The charges involve deposits of RM969,000, RM474,850, RM488,550 and RM190,000 into his Bank Muamalat and Maybank accounts between February 2, 2024, and November 7, 2025.

He faces up to 15 years’ imprisonment and a fine of at least five times the sum involved or RM5 million, whichever is higher, under the Anti-Money Laundering Act 2001. Deputy public prosecutor sought RM300,000 bail, while defence counsel requested RM100,000, citing his client’s retirement status and frozen accounts. Judge Azura Alwi set bail at RM250,000 with two sureties, ordered monthly MACC reporting and passport surrender, and fixed March 30 for mention.
