Transport Minister Anthony Loke said tougher enforcement by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) against heavy vehicles, including overloaded lorries, has reduced fatal crashes. Preliminary police data showed 163 fatal accidents in 2025, down from 260 in 2024 and 232 in 2023. 

JPJ Crackdown on Lorries Reducing Accidents

Loke explained that stricter compliance checks on load limits and safety standards have contributed to this decline, aligning with the government’s goal of protecting lives and infrastructure. 

He stressed that enforcement is based on the Road Transport Act 1987 and the Weight Restriction Order. Industry players, he added, have cooperated, recognizing the importance of long‑term safety reforms.
