In a statement, he asserted, “NEP was drafted when Parliament was suspended. MCA was not involved.”Ker highlighted MCA’s resistance to a proposed 51% racial equity policy, crediting then-leader Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik for risking “cabinet boycott, political isolation, personal sacrifice” to push for the National Economic Consultative Council (NECC). “That pressure forced the creation of the NECC—a rare moment of equality in policy-making,” he said.He criticized the Democratic Action Party (DAP) for abandoning the process: “DAP was invited. Given equal voice. Given key seats. And then—they walked away.” Ker emphasized MCA’s persistence: “MCA stayed. Negotiated. And delivered policy reform.” Concluding, “You can shout forever from outside power. But history remembers who stayed when it mattered.”
