Kuala Lumpur, January 25, 2026 – PAS has floated three names to succeed Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin as Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairperson following his January 1 resignation: deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, Terengganu Menteri Besar Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, and Kedah Menteri Besar Sanusi Nor. A party source told Malaysiakini that the final call lies with PAS central leadership, but Sanusi and Tuan Ibrahim have declined interest, leaving Samsuri as the likely nominee.

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang reiterated the party’s intent to lead PN, citing a muktamar resolution. “That is the PAS muktamar resolution for (PAS) to become (PN) chairperson,” Hadi told reporters after a lecture in Marang. No new decision has been made on Muhyiddin’s interim role, but PAS remains committed to assuming the post.
